The WFA offers fencing instruction to anyone interested in the sport, from beginners to elite athletes. We have a full staff of experienced coaches, including our head coach, Atilio Tass, who is a fencing master trained in Hungary, a two-time Olympic saber fencer for Argentina (Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles 1984) and the head coach at Brown University for 18 years. All of our coaches are certified under USA Fencing, the national governing body of the sport.

The WFA offers a variety of membership plans to meet your needs. Membership is automatically renewed at the previous month’s level unless we are notified otherwise. We offer automatic monthly billing to ensure your account is managed professionally and accurately.

Basic Membership Plans

Open Fencing Membership: Our most basic membership level that provides access to WFA facilities and coaches. Please note that the Open Fencing Membership does not include access to group lessons. Fencers who are fencing at appropriate levels may attend Open Fencing Sessions. The open fencing membership also provides access to private lessons with WFA instructors and coaches.

Non-WFA discount "friendship" rate: For members of local (Seattle-Tacoma area) clubs. Provides access to open fencing sessions and access to private lessons from WFA instructors.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are available with our instructors, and are based on mutual availability. Please see our page on Private Lessons for more information. Private lessons are billed separately from, and in addition to, regular monthly membership.

Strip Coaching

WFA coaches offer their services as strip coaches to help bring out the best in our competitive members. If you are interested in strip coaching for an upcoming tournament, please speak and coordinate with your coach in advance of the tournament. Pricing varies based on the location and level of the tournament, as well as the number of events in which you are competing.

Additional Information

Discounts are available for multiple members of the same family, first responders (police and fire), and active military. Please inquire when you sign up.

Sign-up fee: There is a $50 sign-up fee upon registration for new members or returning members who have previously canceled their membership.

Changes in Membership: If you would like to freeze, cancel, or change your membership level, please let us know in writing or via email. Accounts may be placed on hold for a minimum of two weeks; a $10/month hold fee will take the place of your regular monthly dues. Please note that changes to your membership plan will result in the initiation of a new contract, which will need to be signed before you may check-in to class. Current members: Please contact us to change your membership terms. Do not sign up for a new class through the online portal, as this will ADD the new membership rather than change your existing membership!

Cancellation: We require one-month notice in writing. You can email us here to request cancellation.
