Beginner Saber Camp

Ages 8-14

Big energy, big smiles, real Olympic sport—made for first-time fencers.

Our Beginner Saber Camp is the perfect introduction to fencing for elementary and middle school students—no experience needed. Campers learn the fundamentals of Olympic saber fencing through fast-paced games, footwork challenges, and safe, structured partner drills that build coordination, confidence, and focus.

Because this camp includes a wider age range, we group and coach by age and experience so younger campers can learn comfortably while older campers move at a pace that keeps things exciting.

Perfect for: First-time fencers, active kids who enjoy games and movement, and families looking for a unique sport that’s fun and skill-building. ALL GEAR IS PROVIDED, so students can jump right in!

Campers will learn:

  • How to move like a fencer (stance, balance, footwork)

  • Basic attacks and defenses taught step-by-step

  • How scoring and right-of-way work (in an easy-to-understand way)

  • Sportsmanship, safety, and confidence.

What to expect: A high-energy week where students make friends, learn a cool new sport, and leave feeling proud of how much they can do—often after just a few days.

FEES:
CURRENT WFA MEMBERS: $275

WFA Advanced Beginner Camp

For fencers who already know the basics—and are ready to level up fast.

PREREQUISITE: Already training in fencing.

This camp is for students who are currently training at WFA (or another accredited club) and can move, attack, and defend—but either haven’t tested into intermediate yet, or have just reached that level. Because we’re not spending camp time on beginner foundations, we can jump straight into the skills that make fencing work in real bouts.

Perfect for:

  • Beginner/continuing saber fencers who want a serious push, need momentum, or want to bridge the gap toward intermediate classes;

  • Epee and foil fencers that want to explore saber;

  • Students who have attended 2 or more beginner level camps this season.

Training focus:

  • Sharper footwork patterns (speed, control, explosive changes)

  • Right-of-way clarity (so decisions get faster, not fuzzier)

  • “Action planning”: what you’re trying to make happen in a touch

  • Structured bouting with coaching feedback (not just “free fencing”)

Outcome: Fencers leave more confident, more tactical, and more prepared to step into higher-level training without feeling behind.

FEES:
CURRENT WFA MEMBERS: $275
NON-MEMBERS: $325

INTERMEDIATE SABER CAMP

Train smarter. Fence sharper. Bout a lot.

Ages 9+

PREREQUISITE: Current enrollment in an intermediate level saber class at WFA or another accredited fencing school.

Our Intermediate Saber Camp is for fencers who already have solid fundamentals and are ready to take the next step in competitive performance. Instruction emphasizes the skills that win touches at speed: tactics, timing, and distance, paired with more advanced footwork and bladework that helps you create (and finish) actions on your terms.

Expect a true training week—focused lessons, coached drills, and plenty of bouting time so you can apply what you’re learning in real fencing.

Training focus includes:

  • Distance and timing: when to go, when to wait, and how to control the moment

  • Tactical decision-making: reading opponents, building setups, and choosing the right action

  • Advanced footwork: explosive changes, angle work, and faster resets

  • Sharper bladework: cleaner parries, stronger takes, and more reliable finishes

  • Coached bouting: feedback that turns “sparring” into improvement

The week wraps up with a friendly in-house tournament, giving fencers a fun, low-pressure way to test their progress, practice competition routines, and celebrate the work they put in.

FEES:
CURRENT WFA MEMBERS: $300
NON-MEMBERS: $350
