Outside PE Credits

Many local school districts allow middle and/or high school students to receive PE credits for sports training outside of regular school hours. Washington Fencing Academy has worked with students in many of the surrounding districts to help them meet their school’s PE requirements. This allows students to get credit for sports activities that they already enjoy while freeing up time to take additional elective courses that they might not otherwise have time for. In many cases, hours can be logged for regular class time, private lessons, optional training opportunities, and time spent at competitions.

If you are interested in exploring fencing as an opportunity to receive outside PE credits, follow these 3 easy steps:

Step 1: Talk to your school counselor in advance to verify that they accept outside PE credits, that you are eligible to receive them, and to find out the specifics of what you need for your school. This usually includes:

  1. A set number of hours of instruction.

  2. A time frame in which these hours must be completed.

  3. Official paperwork.

Step 2: take a look at our class schedule to see if your availability and our class schedules mesh.

If it looks like a match, let us know the specifics. You can contact us at ifence@washingtonfencing.com. We’ll help you figure out the best training schedule to fit your needs and record your attendance and/or sign off on your attendance as needed.

Step 3: Sign up for an appropriate membership with WFA (if you haven’t already done so) and provide us with any paperwork you need us to sign in order to begin your credited training sessions. Most schools will require us to sign off on paperwork when you’ve completed the requirements as well, so keep track of those forms!

Please note: WFA does not set standards for school PE requirements. Students are responsible for knowing what their schools require, attending training for the required hours, and providing us with any documentation or forms that need signatures.
